Hours

West Building, Exhibit Hall A
Wednesday, 13 August 5:30 - 7:30 pm

The marvelous devices we carry in our pockets and bags are changing how we enjoy media, absorb information, and interact with the world. Mobile phones and tablets have not only transformed how we engage with visual images, but also how those experiences are created. Today’s apps are often developed by individuals or small teams, and SIGGRAPH 2014’s inaugural Appy Hour is a celebration of those developers’ hard work.

Appy Hour is a techno-social event showcasing innovation by those small teams. Come enjoy a libation, interact with the developers, and experience the next generation of mobile media.

Birdly

Augmented/Virtual Reality Contest Winner

Birdly is an immersive installation that explores the experience of a bird in flight. It tries to capture the mediated flying experience with several methods. Unlike a common flight simulator, users do not control a machine. Insteady, they embody a bird, the Red Kite. Evocation of this embodiment relies mainly on the sensory-motor coupling. Users can control the simulator with their hands and arms, which directly correlates to the wings and the primary feathers of the bird.
