Capturing the Infinite Universe in "Lucy" - Fractal Rendering in Film Production

"Lucy", starring Scarlett Johannson, directed by Luc Besson, required a shot of many fractals interacting with various interactions and simulations. Although existing fractal renderers are powerful, they have limitations for use in production. This talk proposes a novel approach to rendering fractals using existing production-proven renderers.

Premo: A Natural-Interaction Animation Platform

Overview of the Premo animation platform used on "How to Train Your Dragon 2". This platform is comprised of an animation tool, character technologies, and a high-performance multithreaded dependency graph (Libee). Premo offers a state-of-the-art animator experience that features a natural interface for 3D animation.
