This talk shows how previous analytic fiber-reflectance models for rendering hair and fur lack important azimuthal variation of lobe widths and positions, and derives a new, practical non-separable fiber-reflectance model that exhibits these behaviors and compares closely to Monte Carlo ground truth.

Capturing the interaction of wind with cloth and hair in the wintry environment of "Frozen" was a challenge for the character-simulation team. The solution involved low-level simulation software changes, creation of custom fields and visualizers, and integration of windicator and wind-gust rigs into the shot production pipeline.
