(Chicago, IL) – SIGGRAPH invites the public to experience a sampling of its exclusive annual conference content through its new, free SIGGRAPH University initiative. The inaugural SIGGRAPH University program is available at no cost on the ACM SIGGRAPH YouTube channel and features recorded courses from SIGGRAPH 2013.
Aiming to encourage continued education, SIGGRAPH University Courses offer unique access to the industry for professionals who have not yet attended an annual conference. Each Course is presented by experts in the field and serves as a year-round resource for the SIGGRAPH community. The 2014 SIGGRAPH University Courses highlight four popular sessions from last year’s conference:
- “Introduction to 3D Computer Graphics” presented by Andrew Glassner of The Imaginary Institute
- “The Digital Production Pipeline” presented by instructors from Sony Pictures Imageworks, PDI/DreamWorks, Method Studios, MPC, and How to Make Good Pictures, LLC, among others
- “Mobile Game Creation for Everyone” featuring game companies like Havok and Corona Labs
- “An Introduction to OpenGL Programming” presented by Edward Angel of the University of New Mexico and Dave Shreiner of ARM, Inc (who is also the SIGGRAPH 2014 Chair).
“There are two main motivations behind this imitative,” said Paul Strauss, SIGGRAPH 2013 Courses Chair from Google, Inc. “One is to provide a resource to the SIGGRAPH community that is available year-round, not just at conferences. The other is to reduce the duplication of courses at the conferences, making it easier to accept more varied submissions. Now, new attendees can access these great building blocks prior to even coming to the conference.”
SIGGRAPH plans to expand its University program in the coming years to include a series of online educational videos and supplemental materials (such as slides and course notes). With an exciting international location and great programs in the works, SIGGRAPH 2014 is sure to generate excellent content that will be added to the online University.
